We are pleased to announce that reservations are now being accepted for the 23rd Annual HBCU College Tour which takes place March 29, 2020 - April 4, 2020.  Last year's tour resulted in more than $300,000 in combined scholarships offered to seniors attending the tour, including scholarships to Harris-Stowe State University, Jackson State University and Southern University.

The following schools are on this year's destination list: Kentucky State University, James Madison University, Virginia Union University, Norfolk State University, Hampton University, Delaware State University, Bowie State University, Howard University and Harris-Stowe State University.  We are excited about the opportunity to attend each of these outstanding institutions; however, tour locations are subject to change based upon time allocations in our final itinerary.

All 10th - 12th grade students (male and female) are welcome to participate in the tour. Students in grades 10 and 11 must have a 2.0 cumulative GPA and be enrolled in high school.  Seniors must have a 2.5 cumulative GPA and score a minimum of 18 on the ACT or 1500 on the SAT. Students who do not meet the minimum criteria WILL NOT be allowed to attend the tour (no exceptions).  Registration forms are attached to this e-mail and must be completed and submitted in order for students to attend the tour.  Starting tomorrow, August 31, these forms will also be available for download from our website www.kcalphas.com.  Seniors will apply for admission to each of the schools we visit while on the tour, therefore, seniors are required to complete and return all of the attached forms (including the items contained in the senior checklist) in order to attend the tour.  Students in grades 10 and 11 must return the completed Parent Permission Form, Teacher/Counselor Form and Video Release Form in order to attend the tour.

Interested students, parents, and group organizers should plan to attend the informational meeting scheduled for Saturday, October 5, 2019, at 2:00 pm, at the Beta Lambda Educational Institute Building, 2915 Swope Parkway, KCMO, 64130.  We will provide important information regarding the tour (including new programs we are implementing to provide FREE ACT preparation classes and a college readiness seminar) and answer any questions or concerns you might have regarding your student's attendance on the tour.  Because of the success of our recent tours, we have a great deal of interest from students and parents to attend this year's tour, and space is limited.  We accept students on a first come, first served basis, and the informational meetings will be an excellent opportunity to reserve your student's seat on the tour.

The cost of the tour is $500, and you can reserve your space TODAY by making a $75 (non-refundable) deposit. All final payments are due by Friday, February 21, 2020. We will accept cash, check, money order and credit/debit card.  Payments should be remitted to:

Additionally, we are excited to announce that once again the Kansas City Missouri Public School District has renewed its partnership with BLEI and will sponsor up to 20 KCPS students for this year's college tour!!!  KCPS will pay $400 toward the cost of the tour for students receiving this scholarship.  We are also excited to announce that once again the Hickman Mills School District has renewed its partnership with BLEI and will sponsor up to 15 HMSD students for this year's college tour!!!

KCPS and HMSD students should return the full registration packet directly to BLEI (Permission Form, Teacher/Counselor Form, Video Release) in order to be considered for the scholarship.  Scholarships will be awarded based upon GPA and ACT Score (if available) with preference going to male students when possible. Students interested in being considered for either the KCPS scholarship or HMSD scholarship should submit their complete registration packet no later than Wednesday, November 27, 2019.

It is our desire that we not only aid and assist students in getting admitted to college, but also assist students with obtaining scholarships to offset the rising cost of higher education.  In order to be/become eligible for non-athletic scholarships, students must perform well on the ACT/SAT prior to applying for admission to school.  As a result, we are also excited to announce that, in partnership with Maranatha Educational Services, LLC, we will be offering FREE (that's right FREE) ACT Prep classes for up to 20 students who will be attending this year's tour.  In order to be eligible for FREE ACT Prep classes, students must return the completed Parent Permission Form and Teacher/Counselor Form, the $75 deposit and a written request to be considered for the classes.  Students will be selected based upon their year in school, GPA and current ACT score (if any).

Please return the attached parent permission form along with the deposit in order to reserve your place on the tour.  For more information, feel free to contact Donald Maxwell at 816-421-2021 or by e-mail at blei.collegetour@gmail.com
